The Jeep we’re starting with
Project Islander is Kevin VanderWall’s Jeep build and adventure project, based in Michigan. The foundation is a Hyper Green 2017 Jeep Wrangler JK Unlimited: a four-door Jeep already used for open-air driving, trail days and paddleboarding.
The Jeep was purchased in Tennessee, remains rust-free and has been rustproofed to help preserve it as a long-term build and event vehicle. The photos on this site labeled “actual Jeep” show that starting point. Concept artwork shows where we would like to take it.
What is on the Jeep today?
An Alpine Halo11 iLX-F511 is already installed. The matching hardtop, Hyper Green body and outdoor personality are part of the real vehicle. The proposed 40-inch setup and dual 15-inch Orion HCCA SPL system are future build goals.
Three connected parts of the build
Off-road foundation
The planned 40-inch tire direction will be developed alongside suspension, steering, axle and supporting component decisions. We want the choices to work together before a final parts list is announced. Follow the suspension and chassis planning.
Audio with a purpose
Our preferred direction is Orion HCCA SPL subwoofers and amplification, integrated with the Alpine source unit already in the Jeep. Enclosure design, electrical support and tuning are part of that same planning process. See the audio build overview.
Adventure and events
The Jeep should give us stories to document: outdoor trips, installation days, testing and eventually event appearances. A 2027 program is in development; attendance and activations remain unconfirmed.
How the story will develop
- Document the baseline: the actual Jeep, existing equipment and project goals.
- Develop the specification: review component choices with prospective technical partners and installers.
- Build and test: share installation progress and measured results as work happens.
- Take it out: document real use and confirmed event appearances.
The build log is the place for dated updates. We will label installed equipment, proposed changes and completed testing separately so readers can follow the project as it develops.
